Hello! Hooray - look what I made … a pop up book! I got lost there for a little while - fully immersed in the world of pop ups but I did it… I actually made a book with fully working pop ups! Hooray hooray!
… but let me tell you … it was no easy walk in the park. I have zero engineering skills and some sophisticated pop ups must require all of these! Here are some of my first attempts at working out how I wanted the book to look and work and many of my first pop ups didn’t actually pop. In the end I settled on some beginner mechanisms and after many, many prototypes and a few choice swear words I could finally start to see it coming together.
I must admit there were times that I wanted to give up. I’m an illustrator not a papercraft pop up master I told myself but I’m glad I didn’t give up, that I kept on going. I was determined to see it through till the end and I’m so glad that I did. It was worth it. Take a look at this video to see the end result…
